Brian T. Bonney

SUMMARY

Mr. Bonney is a trial attorney at the firm’s Walnut Creek office. For over 35 years, Mr. Bonney has been a senior trial attorney with a focus on complex commercial litigation, insurance, construction litigation, product liability, catastrophic injury, land use, toxic tort, premises liability, employment, class actions, professional liability, environmental, other complex general liability matters, and real estate disputes involving urban mid-rise and high-rise structures. He has also represented individual and corporate defendants in cases ranging from catastrophic injury and wrongful death claims (including complex, multiparty matters arising out of construction site accidents, and defective products) to business litigation and professional liability matters. Mr. Bonney has successfully tried many cases to jury verdict over the course of 35 years.

Mr. Bonney is an experienced trial lawyer who has successfully represented clients before arbitrators, judges, and juries in Northern, Southern and Central California State and Federal Courts. He has also been lead counsel in hundreds of arbitrations and mediations and is very experienced in the handling of complex commercial litigation, internal injury and traumatic brain injury claims. He has earned a reputation for aggressive, efficient, and resultdriven case handling.

Mr. Bonney has extensive experience in complex civil litigation and dispute resolution and has represented clients in both State and Federal Court. He has cases published in Federal Court (Federal Supplement) and the 9th Circuit Court of Appeal. He has served as a Judge Pro Tem for the Contra Costa County Superior Court. Among his published opinions is Cortez v MTD Product, Inc. (1996) 929 F. Supp. 386 (N.D. Cal. 1996), a Federal Court decision regarding federal preemption in the area of prescribed safety warnings and standards in products liability cases.

Mr. Bonney received his B.A. from the University of California at Davis (UCD), Dean’s List, in 1983, and his J.D. from University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law in 1987, where he was named to the Phi Delta Phi International Legal Honor Society and received an American Jurisprudence Award for the subject of Agency. He is admitted to practice in California and before the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit and United States District Courts for the Northern, Eastern and Central Districts of California. Mr. Bonney also belongs to Association of Defense Counsel of Northern California, Defense Research Institute, and the Litigation sections of the California State Bar Association and the Contra Costa County Bar Associations.
