Louis R. Chao

SUMMARY

Louis R. Chao is a trial attorney at the firm’s Pasadena office. Mr. Chao has tried cases involving disputes over corporate ownership of manufactured medical products, intellectual property claims, as well as high-end residential construction claims. His practice primarily involves representing design professionals (i.e., architects, geotechnical engineers, mechanical engineers, civil engineers, etc.) in all aspects of construction—from contract review and negotiation through project construction and ensuing damage claims. Mr. Chao has handled complex litigation involving large public improvements planned for the 2026 World Cup and 2028 Olympics, as well as hospitals, schools, universities, water treatment facilities, upgrades to power facilities at military Federal facilities, and residential housing—ranging from single-family homes to high-end luxury buildings. In addition, over the course of his career, Mr. Chao has represented general contractors, developers, and subcontractors on complex matters, including alleged property damage and loss of oil revenue related to operations to expand the Port of Long Beach, fraud claims involving the sale of high-end homes, catastrophic accidents related to the installation of highway improvements, and loss of lateral support claims arising out of the construction of a beachside custom home.

Mr. Chao received his undergraduate degree from the UCSB and his law degree from the University of San Diego School of Law and was admitted to practice in 1995.
