SUMMARY
Susan R. Jerich is a trial attorney at the firm’s Orange County office. Ms. Jerich’s practice primarily focuses on litigation and labor and employment law matters. Ms. Jerich has broad experience litigating cases in state and federal court, before administrative tribunals, and the Public Employment Relations Board (PERB). Ms. Jerich’s experience representing both employees and employers enables her to effectively represent her clients and successfully resolve matters on their behalf.
Prior to joining C+C, Ms. Jerich was employed as a Deputy County Counsel with the San Bernadino County Counsel’s office where she represented the Sheriff’s Department in labor and employment matters. Ms. Jerich also has twelve years representing public unions and their employees in these matters. Ms. Jerich has served as both a Deputy District Attorney and an Assistant United States Attorney where she honed her skills managing and litigating complex cases, overseeing investigations and handling every phase of the trial process.
Ms. Jerich attended Carleton College, a nationally ranked top ten liberal arts college, and studied Japanese. She ultimately became fluent in the language and culture. Ms. Jerich attended the University of San Francisco School of Law where she helped to found the Maritime Law Journal and served as an Associate Editor. Ms. Jerich worked as a judicial extern in the United States District Court for the Honorable F. Steele Langford as well as a law clerk in the San Francisco City Attorney’s office. Ms. Jerich enjoys travel, working out, and spending time with her growing family.
EXPERIENCES
Successful Conviction and Affirming Appeal in Criminal Possession Case: Ms. Jerich was an Assistant United States Attorney who prosecuted a matter that involved possession of crack cocaine with the intent to distribute, and possession of a short barrel shotgun, loaded revolver and a replica machine gun. Ms. Jerich successfully prosecuted this case resulting in convictions. The case was appealed to the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeal on the basis that the appellant’s Miranda rights were violated. Ms. Jerich argued the matter before the Ninth Circuit which resulted in a published decision affirming the district court jury verdict. (United States v. Clydell Younger (2005), 398 F. 3d 1179.)
Triumphant Representation of Sheriffs’ Deputy in Criminal Case: Ms. Jerich represented a sheriff’s deputy who had been terminated by the department after she had been charged with multiple felonies in a complaint filed by the local District Attorney’s office. The matter proceeded to a preliminary hearing and through Ms. Jerich’s cross-examination and investigation, the court dismissed all charges with prejudice.
Aggressive Representations of Law Enforcement Officers: Prior to joining C+C, Ms. Jerich was an employment lawyer who represented law enforcement officers. She successfully represented peace officers in administrative hearings for several law enforcement agencies after they were terminated. She was successfully able to appeal the terminations and the officers were reinstated.
